We live in an area that is filled with compassionate and giving
people. The Mission is a Christian, Faith based, non-profit
organization, with only approximately 20% of the yearly budget funded
by state and federal grants. This means 80% of our budget is funded
by the compassionate and giving individuals of our community. Without
your volunteer hours and financial support the Mission could not
function. Where would the homeless go if not to the Mission?
We will be at the 17th Street Bridge, the 6th Street Bridge, the 31st
Street Bridge, 14th Street at Madison Avenue, 14th Street at Adams
Avenue, and at the Route 60 and 17th Street Shoney Restaurants..
EVERY PENNY COUNTS………$2.06
will buy
a “home”
cooked meal for a homeless person.

THE FUNDERBURK CHAPEL
The building of a chapel for the Huntington City Mission is the
reality of long-time dream of past and current staff and board members
of the Mission. We broke ground in September of 2006 with
approximately one-third of the needed funds to complete the chapel.
The staff and board of directors took this step in faith and prayer.
Psalms 127:1 'Except the Lord build the house, they labor in vain that
build it.. .. ' For many years the Huntington City Mission Ladies
Auxiliary, which consists of 25-40 ladies from area churches have met
monthly. At each of these meetings they took up a "Mission Chapel
Fund” offering and saved over $35,000. For a small group of ladies to
save this much money, expresses just how long the chapel has been
planned. Also, individuals have made donations restricting the funds
to be used only for the building of the chapel.
The building is currently under roof and ready for the brick and metal
roofing to be installed. Many donated building materials
and donated labor hours from churches, individuals and businesses,
including Aero Fab, 84 Lumber, and Hager Construction, have
already gone into the building to get it to this point. Currently
Dixon Electric is donating labor and material for the wiring.
Five Star Supply has pledged to donate the drywall.
We have asked God to open the hearts of local congregations to help
us, physically and financially, to build the Funderburk Chapel. Many
have stepped forward helping us get the building under roof but, we
need funds to finish the chapel.
If you would like be a part of completing the Funderburk Chapel, mail
your donation to
Huntington City Mission
P O Box 3
Huntington, WV 25706
Remember to include a note that you want your donation restricted for
the chapel fund.
If you have any questions about how you can help with the building of
the Funderburk Chapel or if you would like to tour the Mission, please
call me, 304-633-0542.
Please keep the homeless and the Huntington City Mission staff in your
prayers.
In Christ,
Pastor Pete Davidson

* Huntington City Mission's Ladies Auxiliary *
Huntington City Mission's Auxiliary
meet the first Monday of the month at 624 Tenth Street.
Those interested in attending are welcome. The Auxiliary has
been in existence since 1939. Most of the original members have
gone and others have joined, but all continue their wonderful work.

June Simms is the current President and Lynn Clagg, Mission employee,
is the liaison between the mission and the auxiliary. You can
contact Lynn at (304) 523-0293 ext 320 or by email at
lclagg@huntingtoncitymission.org for additional information.
Many churches remain loyal to the
Mission Auxiliary and monthly specific churches bring in a variety of
covered dished for a wonderful meal. The Mission provides the
meeting place, meat, bread, butter, tea, table service and clean-up.
Over the years, Auxiliary members have
raised funds for a Chapel. In September 2006 ground was broken
for the building of the chapel The Chapel was named The
Funderburk Chapel in honor of Dr. James Funderburk, who served as
Executive Director of 19 years and shortly after his retirement he
returned to the Mission to serve as a part-time chaplain.
Mrs. Thelma Rupe continues to crochet
kitchen dish clothes (providing all materials free of charge),
bringing them to the meetings and selling them for $1.00 each.
She is so devoted to the Mission and we are so pleased to see her
smiling face every first Monday of the month, as she enters our doors.
Thelma is also seen often bringing in staples like sugar, toilet
tissue and Lysol throughout the month.
If you are looking for an opportunity
to serve, consider joining the Auxiliary. You can visit them
alone, or perhaps the Ladies Circle at your church might like to
attend with you? One thing for sure... You are Welcome!
I believe if you visit once, you will want to come back again.
